WHO MADE THIS? A seemingly simple question that has become increasingly difficult to answer in the age of artificial intelligence. Is it the artist, the machine, the algorithm, or the person who selects the image and places it within the exhibition space?

With WHO MADE THIS?, the D.N.K. FILOART group continues an investigation that FILOART first began between 1984 and 1989 by questioning the concept of authorship.

The exhibition explores how authorship is transformed through artificial intelligence, algorithmic image production, and the active participation of the audience.

The basement in which this participatory exhibition project takes place remains in its original state. Its existing everyday objects become part of the exhibition, blurring the boundaries between storage space and exhibition space. In doing so, the project asks whether the exhibition space of the future might shift from the traditional white cube into the hidden spaces of everyday life.

At the centre of the exhibition is the Archive of AI D-generated Images. Visitors select an AI-generated image, which is printed in two identical copies. One copy is taken home by the visitor, while the other becomes part of the exhibition. Visitors decide where the image is placed within the space. With each new work, the exhibition changes, and authorship becomes an open, ongoing process unfolding between artists, machine, space, and audience.

WHO MADE THIS?

Wer hat das gemacht? Eine scheinbar einfache Frage, die im Zeitalter künstlicher Intelligenz immer schwieriger zu beantworten ist. Ist es der Künstler:innen, die Maschine, der Algorithmus oder die Person, die das Bild auswählt und im Raum platziert?

Mit WHO MADE THIS? setzt die Gruppe D.N.K. FILOART eine Auseinandersetzung fort, die die FILOART bereits zwischen 1984 und 1989 mit der Frage der Autorschaft begann.

Die Ausstellung untersucht, wie sich Autorschaft durch künstliche Intelligenz, algorithmische Bildproduktion und die aktive Beteiligung des Publikums verändert.

Der Keller, in dem das partizipatives Ausstellungsprojekt stattfindet, bleibt in seinem ursprünglichen Zustand. Seine vorhandenen Alltagsgegenstände werden Teil der Ausstellung und lassen die Grenzen zwischen Lagerraum und Ausstellungsraum verschwimmen. So stellt das Projekt die Frage, ob sich der Ausstellungsraum künftig vom White Cube in verborgene Räume des Alltags verlagert.

Im Zentrum steht das „Archive of AI D-generated Images“. Besucherinnen und Besucher wählen ein KI-generiertes Bild aus, das in zwei Exemplaren gedruckt wird. Ein Exemplar nehmen sie mit, das andere wird Teil der Ausstellung. Wo das Bild im Raum platziert wird, entscheiden sie selbst. Mit jeder neuen Arbeit verändert sich die Ausstellung und Autorschaft wird zu einem offenen Prozess zwischen der Künstler:innen, Maschine, Raum und Publikum.
